How can it be so ugly in aMSN? This is one of the first questions that I do when I install this (also) very complete MSN client for GNU / Linux. And, as he was accustomed to proprietary software from Microsoft, this aesthetic me seem outdated desfassada quite elaborate and more:
The unsightly.
So I decided to remedy it. Fortunately, it is very easy to customize with skins that we can lose the same project site aMSN (clica'm eixerit to download new skins now!). Among the most interesting is we have:
- Several skins especially in Ubuntu, so that they better integrate the program, such as Ubuntu (Human) or Ubuntu, but also for Kubuntu!
- Some strange appearances for the Catalan community are designed to Catalonia Skin or this, specially designed for the club.
- For those who miss time and other operating systems, there is a copy of the proprietary MSN Live, the Live aMSN!, Or l 'aMSN for Mac for fans of the apple.
And many others simply see the list!
To install it you are, just copy the files downloaded (and unzipped) to the appropriate folder, and good running nautilus as root:
gksudo nautilus
And the folder where you copied the files is:
/usr/share/amsn/skins
Once done, you can choose from the menu:
Compte -> Selector d'aparences
But none of these other skins if you like it, no problem! The advantage of the way in which it falls aMSN (in Tcl, lletgíssim and primitive, there is at first glance), it is very easy to modify many features of appearance.
You can access the directory of skins and change them as we like. As before, access from nautilus to the folder, and once there, we can modify the graphic files at will, especially the pixmaps folder, and pixmapscroll smileys (usually are. Png or. Png, so a substitute the paint as KolourPaint [clica'm for more information] from the sea but you will!). Fit to edit them and save with the same name as before, restart aMSN and go!

One last tip: unfortunately, these menus can not be fixed so ugly ... there is still a plugin, the Desktop Integration, which makes some in the appearance of our desktop manager (Gnome, for example), making them more pleasant.

This is the aMSN MSN client that I use normally. First of all I installed Pidgin but I do not know exactly why, gave me strength when problems start, and sometimes could not even get opened. So I decided to use aMSN and time, I'm very happy.
But what is certain is that its graphical appearance is quite ugly. So now, thanks to your note because I can solve the small problem of this program. But not if I install Intal "Barcelona Skin" or "Skin Catalonia", which dilemma! hahah
